‘Tis the season

Christmas thoughts

December always seems to fly by – I cannot believe it is already one week until Christmas! This is my favourite time of the year in Norway because of the warmth emitted amidst the cold winter air: the spirit of Christmas brought by…

Christmas lights in Oslo

December is the only month of the year when the shops are open on Sunday (automatically making it the best month, in my opinion) and most streets in Oslo light up, adding much-needed warmth and brightness to the cold, dark winter days.

We had our annual family pinnekjøtt dinner and FSO Christmas party earlier this month – a great opportunity for us to catch up with relatives and friends we do not often meet.

While some like gløgg (mulled wine) and julebrus (Christmas soda), I opted for a taste of home via Starbucks. More on those traditional Norwegian Christmas drinks in another post 😉

Christmas 2017

A great aspect of Christmas in Norway is that it is celebrated without a religious undertone. As I mentioned last year, Norwegians are not celebrating the birth of Christ, but the beginning of lighter days returning – definitely something to rejoice if you only get 2-3 hours of sunlight a day for several months of the year.

Have a lovely week ahead and good luck with any Christmas preparations you have left! 🙂
